Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second grade students are creative and inquisitive learners. We learn and grow together everyday. Our school is a Title One school and is located in a high poverty area where many of our families are farm workers and English Language Learners. Regardless of their home situation, my students have never allowed that to inhibit their love for learning and have always thrived on new experiences.

Due to budget contraints and the low, socio-economic demographics of my school, music is not seen as a priority in the lower grades.

Through this project, I would like to provide many of my students with their first experience playing a musical instrument.

I am certain that my students would benefit greatly in all aspects of their education through this project.

My Project

Education in the arts fosters and enriches students' lives. Music instruction can help children become well-rounded, engaged, and active citizens of the world.

Developing a music program in my classroom will help nurture and advance my students' critical and creative thinking skills needed in the twenty-first century.

My goal is to expose my students through music, to a more enriching and academically challenging education. Not only will my students learn how to play the fluotophone and how to read music, they will also improve their performance arts skills as they perform for their parents and the school community. This will further improve their self esteem and self confidence in their abilities.

I would like to buy enough supplies for them to be able to use in school, which will be kept for future students, as well as for use in their individual home practice. I developed this project in an effort to enrich my students' education and ensure that they have the opportunity to gain from the many benefits which the arts, such as music, can provide.
