Unboxing the new outdoor learning materials felt like opening Christmas presents. \r\n\r\nWe are using the Step2 Playtime Patio, binoculars, and bug sorting kits to transform our outdoor area into a science lab. During center time, my students use the binoculars to observe nature up close and work on collaborative social play in our shaded patio space, while the magnetic fishing set and footballs are helping them build essential fine and gross motor skills. \r\n\r\nNext up, we are expanding our outdoor exploration unit to document local bugs and plant life. Your incredible generosity has made our outdoor learning deeply impactful for our young learners. Today the Science library refresh boxes arrived! What a joy it was to open these big boxes and share new Science books. My students were thrilled to crack open the brand new National Geographic Science encyclopedia, peel the plastic wrapper from the 10 box set of the \"I Survived\" series, and feel the fresh glossy pages of \"The DNA Book.\" Thank you for giving my students this opportunity.\r\n\r\nSharing the excitement of new books with my middle school science classes is a joy. Students were so impressed with the quality of the books that were delivered. It was like bringing them to Barnes and Noble for a field trip! That same excitement was delivered to my classroom. Students were given time to explore all of the titles and spend time discussing their thoughts and curiosities. Students love the visual encyclopedias by Theodore Gray, including \"Molecules,\" \"Reactions,\" and \"Engines.\" These books are stunning pictorial explanations of complex science and engineering topics. \r\n\r\nI truly believe that literacy is the most important skill that students can learn in school. I hope that the new Science library books will instill a love and curiosity for reading and further develop students' literacy.
