My Students

Getting comfortable and settling in for a read-aloud is one of the most loved activities in my class. My students are book loving, voracious readers, and enthusiastic learners. They are eager to learn about history through great literature. They are critical and compassionate thinkers and enjoy participating in open-ended class discussions.

My Project

When learning about a new topic my students analyze both primary and secondary sources to get a more comprehensive understanding of that topic. I always try to bring in great children's literature to help students connect with characters that lived during a given time period to help them connect and care about others.

These books will enhance our slavery unit and help students understand the savagery of how enslaved people were treated.

My students are eager to learn about injustice and how they can help change our community and world to be more compassionate.

With these new books, my students will learn about the life of Olaudah Equiano who was kidnapped at the age of 11 and how he worked to buy back his freedom. This adapted version of Olaudah Equiano's autobiography will help my students develop a greater understanding of how enslaved people were treated.
