Enriching Bodies & Minds Through Physical Education & the Arts

Help me give my students the tools for enrichment activities as a way to boost their physical and mental activity, ultimately enhancing their social and emotional skills. The Pickleball Set will assist me in motivating my students!

My Project

As a Special Education Math, Physical Education, and Art Educator I plan to utilize the materials on an ongoing basis to help guide my students to believe that they are physically and mentally strong individuals who are on a path to their own success.

Through continued emphasis on the mind and body connection, I plan to use the requested tools as different avenues to incorporate more social and emotional learning.

Providing opportunities for the students to participate in a wide variety of team sports, they will work on social skills such as communication, teamwork, and perseverance. They will work on their emotional skills by learning how to lose a game, how practice is necessary in life, and what to do if they get frustrated.

The Art materials will be utilized in a similar manner: intertwining social and emotional learning into the art lessons. Providing the opportunity for students to engage in different visual art activities (i.e. embroidery, digital media, crafting) gives the students exposure to what they might be interested in and where they might find success. The materials will provide for a hands-on approach to social and emotional learning as one project I am planning is for the students to create dreamcatchers with a rainbow crystal prism in the middle. The focus on shining bright, a healthy amount of sun exposure, rainbows, and weaving yarn are some pathways I plan to incorporate and they'll be the basis of social/emotional discussion topics
