Enhancing Social-Emotional Development and Play Skills In Preschool
Help me give my students books, games, and dramatic play materials to further develop their learning about their emotions, strategies for handling their emotions, and to help them get along and make friends while playing.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can learn and succeed.
My classroom consists of special needs students with disabilities, high risk, and typically developing children in an inclusive classroom setting.
They range in age from three to five years old and participate in North Carolina's pre-kindergarten program that seeks to prepare them for success when they enter kindergarten. Our preschool classrooms are in a high poverty rural area. Our classrooms feeds 3 Title I schools in North Carolina and over 80 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my pre-k students receive backpack food on the weekend and face many hardships, but my students are eager to learn and do their best.
My Project
We are requesting books, games, and dramatic play materials to further develop their learning about their emotions, strategies for handling their emotions, and to help them get along and make friends while playing.
Social-emotional development and play two of the most important parts of preschool.
My students need to be able to identify their feelings so they can talk to others about them. Being able to get along with peers is a very important skill to educational success in kindergarten, a skill they will need throughout their lives.
We need emotions books such as getting along with others, games in the Mindful Kids activity book, and tools such as yoga DVDs and stencils to assist students in learning these skills. Teaching these skills is one of the best ways to prepare them for life.
When children learn to label their emotions early it helps them to adjust to situations and others better because they can express how they feel. Our students also love to dress up and pretend and learn best through play!
We will use the dramatic play items such as the veterinarian outfit, pet vet center, and restaurant writing center to enhance our learning during our classroom free choice center time. By having these items the children will be able to re-enact real life scenarios and learn through cooperative play. Please help my students by donating to purchase these books, games, and toys that help them learn about their emotions and feelings while playing. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
