Our students are using these new spaces every day to mix, pour, stir, and \"cook\" with mud, water, leaves, and other natural materials. One of my favorite moments so far came during a \"mud pie bakery\" our class created together. Students took on roles as bakers, customers, and cashiers, measuring scoops of dirt, decorating pies with flowers and pebbles, and taking orders from one another. They were practicing math, language, and teamwork without even realizing they were learning. The canopy has been a game changer too, giving us a shady, comfortable place to play and gather, even when the weather isn't perfect.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, the excitement was unforgettable. Their eyes lit up, and several of them gasped and ran straight to the kitchens. One student shouted, \"Is this really for us?\" and others immediately began planning what they would make. Some of our more reserved students, who often hesitate to join group play, jumped right in and started inviting friends to cook with them. Seeing that spark of joy and confidence has been a highlight of our year.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to build on this momentum by connecting our outdoor kitchens to our science and literacy lessons. Students will explore how water changes soil, observe what happens to our \"recipes\" over time, and record their discoveries in nature journals. We also plan to write and illustrate our own class recipe book of imaginative \"mud menus\" to share with families. Especially in the first few weeks, our art center is used as a safe, calm space to express emotions in a healthy way. Our classroom has used the materials purchased through this project almost daily, and knowing we can continue this work all year is relieving still. \r\n\r\nThank you for your support in our classroom. When we ordered these materials, we had no idea how much we would NEED them at the end of this school year. You could take them away now and they still would have been well-worth it! \r\n\r\nFor starters, our snake mister hose attachments (and the option to split the hose/add a new one) made a huge difference in the summer heat that joined us in May. We enjoyed running through them, feeling the mist with our hands, and using it to water our new garden. \r\n\r\nWe also tried on our rain suits (even when it wasn't raining), and used those with the misters to test them out. These will be perfect for outside play on rainy days! \r\n\r\nOur outdoor area is the perfect extension of our classroom. We immediately put them together and the students got to use these for the past few months. \r\nWe expanded our safe place and added the trampoline and the spin seat to that area for children to access daily. They are able to choose this center or use it when they have bigger feelings during our school day. Preschool is a beginning for these children's education career and we want to establish techniques that can help children calm appropriately during their day. \r\nWe are so thankful for these materials and your generosity to help our students. We plan to have lots of use from this carpet space and the extra paper from your donations. The children were given more sensory items for our sensory box, science materials, personal desk tops for work on and other essentials for the classroom.\r\n\r\nWe are so thankful for those items. The children were immediately able to use those items in the spring and we are still using those items with our new class this school year. They love the sensory materials in our sensory box. We change this with all of our themes and studies and they love to create, count, and manipulate items with their new sensory materials. The paints sticks have probably had the most use this school year because we have so many kiddos that LOVE art! \r\n\r\nWe are so grateful to have the opportunity to have new, exciting and fun items to add to our learning experiences year after year thanks to donors from Donors Choose!
