My students need LEGO block sets and a LEGO table to challenge their imagination, teach them about diversity and emotions, and strengthen their fine motor and matching skills, and shelving and bins for storage.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students may be young, but they come to school every day eager and excited to learn something new. Their passion for learning is such an inspiration to me, but being that I teach at an inner-city school where breakfast and lunch are provided to every student daily, within a district that consists mainly of students from low socio-economic backgrounds, our funds are stretched. What used to be a five hundred dollar budget for classroom materials has been cut drastically.
I am determined to close the achievement gap and provide my students with everything necessary for them to succeed!
I would love to provide my students with more materials and opportunities for engaging, hands-on and interactive learning experiences, but that becomes difficult with a very small budget for classroom materials.
My Project
LEGO blocks are something that greatly enhances the learning of young students in so many ways. Along with strengthening fine motor skills and imagination, they can be used to supplement various ideas that young students are currently learning.
My goal is to provide my students with various hands-on learning opportunities to reinforce concepts learned within our curriculum while building on their fine motor skills and imagination.
We do currently have a small LEGO table and one generic set of LEGO blocks. As you can imagine, my students thoroughly enjoy this area of the classroom and can be challenged so much more with these additional LEGO block sets and LEGO table in the areas of social and emotional growth, peer interactions, fine motor skills, and imagination. We also need the shelving and bins for storage.
