Enhancing Literacy: Growing the Spanish Book Collection for Students

My Project

Reading in one's primary language can positively impact the literacy development of second language learners, including their proficiency in English. This phenomenon is often referred to as "transfer of skills" or "cross-language transfer." When individuals develop strong literacy skills in their first language, they are likely to have a solid foundation in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and other language-related abilities.

The AHS ELL students are active and enthusiastic readers of the existing Spanish books in the library and have requested we expand and improve the collection.

To this end, they submitted a curated list of 20 young adult books that they would appreciate being added to the collection.

By honoring their requests and incorporating these suggested titles, we not only meet their immediate needs but also affirm the library's commitment to responsive and inclusive educational practices that prioritize the voices and preferences of its diverse student body.
