Bonjour à tous! My students spend most of their day learning fifth grade subjects in a French-immersion classroom. There are 22 children in the classroom, ages 10-11 and they love learning! They have all been in a French curriculum school for at least five years now and are fully bilingual.
My students are very enthusiastic about learning, but they are all at different levels.
In my classroom I have talented students, some are considered gifted, and some students need additional support and tools. All of my students enjoy working in groups and using a variety of educational resources to enhance their education, including educational websites and apps like FrontRow, Code, and Adobe Voice among others.
Our school is a free French-immersion type-2 public charter school serving all of Louisiana. Our students learn all core subjects in French and under the guidance of certified French teachers. Our school also emphasizes learning outside of the classroom through educational opportunities that are immersive, hands-on, and unforgettable—students explore science through extended stays at Audubon Zoo and Aquarium, learn art at the Ogden Museum, delve into Louisiana history in our historic French Quarter parks and learn about design at the New Orleans FabLab.
My Project
The technology requested for the project will help my students tremendously. As all my students are talented, but some work at different levels, the addition of the iPads will be crucial. The iPads will encourage kids to work individually or in groups, according to their needs, to practice their French and other subjects through different websites and applications. They will be able to use Front Row, Code, and Adobe Voice among others.
Having access to these websites and applications, students will be able to study for their current subjects, like the anatomy of a shark, as well as prepare for the future.
The students will have access to the Code website and learn to work with algorithms as a developer, they will be able to use Adobe Voice and create video projects and presentations. The Apple TV will also be a great addition as this will allow students to display their projects to their classmates, other students, teachers, parents and special guests. Having this additional technology will enhance the way they present and better the students' public speaking and presentation skills.
