My students need a laptop in our classroom to complete a document camera cart. We have all other devices necessary for this cart (document camera & projector).
Whenever I ask my students to grab a chair and meet me at our classroom desktop computer, there is an immediate buzz of excitement. That is because the students know they are going to be watching a movie clip or participating in a whole class online quiz. Their favorite activities!
I teach a group of fourth graders in a substantially separate classroom.
This is a language based classroom and individualized instruction is essential.
I have ten energetic, enthusiastic, motivated students who adore the computer. Whenever possible, I try to incorporate the computer into lessons, particularly in Science and Social Studies. The kids love this! The internet offers so many sites that have games and quizzes that make learning fun! Often times these online movie clips or quizzes help break down somewhat complex information which is exactly what students in my class need. We have an online reading supplemental program that has proven to be effective and the students just love being on the computer.
My Project
As I mentioned, the students love crowding around the desktop to watch Science clips or do Social Studies quizzes. However, ten fourth grade students are not small anymore! We do not have space and I only have three desktops in my classroom. Being able to project these images onto a screen would be far more effective. A laptop would be the missing piece on our cart. I already have a document camera and a projector available. Now, we only need a laptop!
Having a fully functional cart (with the laptop I am requesting) will transform the way the students learn.
Instead of crowding around a desktop, the students can participate in online activities or watch movie clips from the comfort of their own seats. In addition, many of our programs offer online supplements. Having a way to project these lessons onto a large screen is just truly amazing and something my students have never had access to in the past.
