My Project

I work with ten elementary schools in the Anchorage School District. Anchorage is one of the most diverse school districts in the country and my schools have many English Language Learners speaking Spanish, Yupik, Hmong, Samoan, Korean, Albanian, Ukrainian, Russian and Tagalog, just to name a few.

I would like to provide these children books that match their instructional reading level to build confidence in their ability to decode, understand stories, learn vocabulary and practice correct language structures.

The Rigby PM Collection is uniquely suited for ELL students. The stories are short, but have interesting storylines and some of the characters carry over into other books, so students can see character development across texts. The pictures are engaging and contain details that help facilitate decoding and story development.

The books will be used with students primarily at school by English Language Tutors, but I'd love for the kids to bring them home on a rotating basis to read with their families. I've done this in the past in other districts and it's worked beautifully, but we really need the books! Thank you so much for considering donating to this project!
