This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The majority of our students are minorities who come to us with high needs and poverty, and a great passion for learning when they are able to make connections to themselves, their communities, and the world. My classrooms include students who are English Language Learners, and others who need extra support to reach our high standards of learning.
The current COVID19 pandemic has my students struggling to learn online from home.
They are surrounded by distractions with siblings, chores, and more home-related responsibilities. Many are also working in essential positions such as grocery clerks and delivery. Our district is teaching with MS Teams and we're offering live lessons at scheduled times and recorded lessons that students can access any time that's convenient.
My Project
With the huge change from in-person instruction to virtual learning, the challenges with explaining instructions and answering student questions are my biggest hurdles. The green screen and whiteboard will help me to show examples, clarify tricky aspects of English and literature, and allow me to model in real time during virtual lessons and recorded instruction.
With these materials, I'll be able to see my students on my computer while demonstrating activities and showing them how to go about succeeding with each assignment.
At-home instruction will be closer to our classroom environment giving my students more consistency. Our routines will help students to build confidence because there will be fewer differences between the two instruction formats. It's all about student success.
