My students are very high level, college driven students. They are constantly wanting more: more information, more knowledge, more challenge. Many of my students come from affluent families, but our school has the typical monetary problem of limited technological resources.
My students want and need to be challenged on a daily basis.
Training future engineers, they need hands on experiences with top of the line technology every day and a classroom that integrates technology seamlessly. My students need to see how technology is used in new innovative ways and learn how to control and manipulate it to their own design.
My Project
Engineers love to design, engineering students are no different. One of the biggest challenges that we face as teachers, is providing enough materials for all students to make their designs. Makerspaces are very popular right now and for a good reason. Engineers that know how to make their ideas keep a hand grasping in reality and make them more confident in their abilities, creating more competent designers.
We have a great Makerspace already in our classroom complete with a laser cutter, but we don't have materials to cut with our laser.
This project will provide acrylic sheets in every color, so students in the program can continue to make their designs for years to come.
