Hello! I am the 4th grade math and science teacher at an amazing school in Columbus, Ohio. Our school serves students in a low socioeconomic area. My students are bright, enthusiastic and ready to learn all they can about science. I have never taught students more eager to conduct research based activities and experiments in our classroom. I try to incorporate STEM activities and experiments into all my content areas.
I am building the science department from scratch and would love to be able to conduct experiments with my students.
Since our school is a charter school, it does not receive the same amount of funding as a traditional public school. I want my students to be able to experience the same opportunities as students at any other school in our state.
I believe that given opportunities and appropriate equipment, my students will have that many more doors opened to them. I love all of my students and want them to be able to have the very best learning opportunities I can provide for them. Please help me share my love of science education with my fantastic students.
For this project, I am focusing on my students' ability to use their critical thinking skills to engineer around a given problem. Using S.T.E.M techniques, I hope to incorporate additional engineering activities and manipulatives in my science and math classes.
I am working on creating a Science Club at my school where high school students mentor elementary students.
I am hoping that by creating this mentor program all of the students will develop skills beyond math and science.
I want the students to be able to build their communication skills, critical thinking skills, which will coincide with increasing their engineering and scientific inquiry abilities. I have seen what this type of mentor program can do and I look forward to developing this program at my school.
