I teach scholars who are three to five years of age in a public school setting in an urban community. I serve students from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures and socioeconomics. Our school district has a seventy percent plus, free or reduced price breakfast and lunch population.
I primarily teach children with special needs (including multiple disabilities, autism, visual, hearing, sensory and attention deficit disorders).
However, I also teach children who are typical developing and children with English as a second language.
My Project
I believe that we have a huge responsibility to initiate a love and desire of learning before our students begin kindergarten. Because kids learn by playing, they need a classroom environment with a variety of hands on manipulatives (including over sized building blocks like the dream builders set).
My goal is to create meaningful STEM learning opportunities inside my classroom.
I want to give my students the opportunity to experience a variety of engineering, math, and science learning in a playful way. I wish to foster a love of learning through play. I wish to promote problem solving, develop social skills, and encourage math and science thinking.
