My Students

Each day in my classrooms is a new adventure. I have the privilege of working with an amazing group of students, ages 8-12, with a varying range of special needs. My students face challenges in the areas of cognition, speech, motor, visual, hearing, social and/or behavioral skills. Many are also directly impacted by Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism, or Sensory Processing Disorders. This influences how they interpret and interact with the world around them. Their unique viewpoint has changed who I am as both a teacher and parent.

My students challenge me to provide them with access to meaningful experiences and curriculum that will allow them to grow as future world citizens.

My students inspire and guide my classroom teams as we work together to learn academic, social, and life skills.

My Project

We are all STEAM powered. We are continuously surrounded by Science, Technology, the Arts, Engineering, and Math. Learning to harness strategies from all 5 of these areas is crucial to developing real-world problem solving skills. In order to prepare my students to independently solve for themselves, I must expose them to as many STEAM enrichment activities as possible.

STEAM powers our potential to become independent thinkers and problem-solvers.

I absolutely LOVE opportunities to incorporate STEAM into familiar lessons as it provides me with a many-layered approach to teaching independence. The incorporation of STEAM engineering centers will provide practice in creating a plan-of-action as well as build fine motor accuracy. Simultaneously, we will be able to tie those skills to our own areas of struggle to facilitate thinking on our feet, trying new things, and (most importantly) recovering from failure. Skill generalization is going to be the key to our success. The applications of STEAM are truly endless!
