My Students

I have the opportunity to work with some of the most wonderful students in Utah! My students come from all types of backgrounds and many do not have the space, the materials, or the book selection that our classroom offers. I have a small classroom in which I help small groups of students work on closing the gaps.

These students are ones who have been most impacted by Covid-19.

These children are ones who struggling in the tradtional classroom and with online learning and time out of the classroom for illnesses they have fallen even further behind. They not only struggle academically but also socially, and I help provide a calm space in which students can learn and grow both academically and socially.

My Project

Due to the limited space in my classroom and increasing class sizes, a set of shelving units for displaying grade appropriate content would provide easy access to students. While storage is a simple need, it will immensely enhance the availability of materials and allow greater independence among a student population which is afforded little such opportunity. Another tool which would allow for a deeper level of learning and a richer engagement would be flexible seating. Flexible seating goes beyond a lesser restrictive seating assignment and involves uniquely designed seating apparatuses which increase accessibility to students of all shapes and sizes.

I am hoping to create a classroom environment that will provide an inviting and comfortable space for students to come and gain confidence in the reading skills and social skills.

By providing a calm and flexible space we can increase students focus and instill the love of learning and reading. A flexible classroom will help students to increase student engagement which is shown to improve motivation and academic performance.
