Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in North Orange County in a low income area. Currently, I'm working with an amazing group of students who unfortunately face daily home-life challenges. Nearly 85% of our students receive free or reduced breakfast/lunch. English is a second language for 74% of the students in our district. Some of our students are classified as homeless and some of my students are without mother/father figures in their lives.
With the challenges that my students face, they all deserve to walk into our classroom and feel safe, loved, and empowered.
I have a highly motivated group of scholars this year and I am determined to give them all the resources and opportunities possible to help them be successful this year and in the future.
My Project
This project is focused on keeping my students engaged during lessons. My group of scholars are a very active group and love to talk... what better way to engage them than collaborate with each other with fun and interactive activities. Since we are a STEAM school, having Ozobots in the classroom will be a great way to tie content area with technology. I also plan on using the boxes and assortment of locks and lights to create Breakout EDU boxes. Breakout EDU are tasks that the students need to collaborate to figure out the right "codes" to open the box. I plan to use the Breakout EDU boxes as an end of unit tool to see if my students are ready for their assessments. The stools will be added seating choice in my small group table in the back of the classroom. Having a different type of seating arrangement will help keep my students engaged during our small group instruction.
Engagement is so important in education; I want all my students to feel involved in their learning.
By getting this project funded, it will allow me to engage my students in different types of learning.
