This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a PreK class in an urban area. We are a Title I school, which means that most families are below poverty. My students come from many diverse multicultural backgrounds. All students receive free breakfast, lunch and snack. This is their first time in a school setting.
My students love to explore different hands-on multi-sensory manipulatives.
My students are creative and full of questions about the world around them. They love hands-on engaging activities that challenge them to think outside the box!
My Project
Some may think a light table is just for science exploration and discovery, but the benefits definitely don’t end there.
A light table can be used to enhance literacy, math, and writing skills in fun and playful ways.
Children are naturally drawn to the gentle glow of the light table and tend to stay there for long periods of time, which is great for stretching those budding attention spans of my PreK students!
The light table is a versatile tool that can be used for everything from open-ended play experiences to arts and crafts, to teaching academic concepts, and more! My students will be using the Crystal Building Blocks and MagnaTiles for sorting, counting, measuring, building and much more!
