My Students

My students are the most talented, the most capable students out there. They have the knowledge of other languages and cultures. Together, we are working hard on overcoming language barriers to create not simply functioning, but successful members of American society. As a former English as a new language learner myself, I was taught to look at my background as a mind of meaningful knowledge and skills, that I can use to enrich the lives of people around me. I tirelessly work to create the same attitude in my English language learners.

My Project

I am hoping to get some engaging reading materials for my students. Understanding is why we read. However, to language learners, for whom reading in itself is a highly demanding task, reading outdated or simply not interesting texts, is something that can put them to sleep. I want to get reading materials that help engage them, and through it, make them interested in the topics they are reading, topics that they are striving to understand, and not just "read through".

By donating to this project, you will help us get interesting reading materials, that connect to current events, and are aligned with the learning standards.

TIME Edge for Grades 6+, that we want to acquire, provides everything we are looking for. Reading materials will be accessible for students for in-class work and at home.
