My fourth-grade students are a curious group who love discovering new things. They love both silently reading by themselves and being read to. My students are open to reading any of the books I suggest and, after, love to discuss what they read. I especially enjoy watching them make recommendations to each other. They have fallen in love with historical fiction books and have requested more.
My students and their excitement for books remind me why I fell in love with teaching and reading years ago.
There’s nothing more exciting than seeing the students fall in love with reading. You always know they love it if they get mad when it is time to stop! Many of my students (67%) receive free or reduced-rate lunch, but that statistic does not hold them back. They are eager to devour and love getting their hands on new knowledge. I want them to be exposed to the diverse world that we live in, and through literature I feel I can do that!
My Project
During the school year, students become fascinated with history. They can't seem to get enough of things that really happened in the world's past. They want to know more, read more, learn more!
My students have fallen in love with historical fiction book, and are craving more.
I had a group of boys who are in love with the Alan Gratz books and have asked if I could find a way to get more! I can't wait to surprise them with TWO books of each title for our library. This will also keep students motivated because they could form their own book clubs and hold each other accountable!
