This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach at a Title I school where for many of my students school is a relief and a safe zone from what they are experiencing at home. We are also a unique school in that we are multi-aged (2nd/3rd grade) and we are team teaching. So I have 54 students that I share with my team.

For my students, this year will be the first year that they have a 'normal' school year.

They were in kindergarten/preschool when COVID-19 hit. We were back and forth during their 1st grade/kindergarten year as well as their 2nd/3rd grade year. We have a lot of gaps in our learning and some of that requires students to have even more individualized instruction than in prior years. Having headphones will help us address each student's needs without interfering with another's learning. These headphones will allow for our students to work on their lessons at their own pace while we help those who are needing more intense support.

We would also like to celebrate being together and what school is meant to be by printing photos of our activities to put around the classroom, celebrating our classroom family, and providing fun activities such as a glow party, using the black light bars. This will help our students be a part of our community as well as provide them with visual reminders of our classroom family and the joys of school.
