Engaging Math Students With Projects, Games, and Instant Feedback
Help me give my students materials to create and engage in math! Students will create math inspired board games, posters representing graphs and tables, and practice basic skills on a daily basis using Post-it easel pads, dry erase boards and markers.
I work with a wide range of students each year. Many of my students are performing below grade level and need extra resources, support, and motivation, while others are performing above grade level and need enrichment projects and opportunities to continue to grow.
Working within such a diverse population of learners is a challenge and a privilege.
My students face many challenges as they enter middle school. They often struggle to bring in basic school supplies, eat nutritious meals regularly, or have consistent parent support. Our school is their safe place where they learn skills, manage emotions, and solve problems.
My Project
Project based learning offers students the opportunity to demonstrate understanding outside the parameters of a test. Students will use the 25 x 30 poster paper, graph paper, and markers to represent their mathematical understanding through poster making! They will have the opportunity to present and display mathematical scenarios and problem solving procedures.
Students will participate in and create mathematically inspired games using the dice, playing cards, dry erase markers, boards, and basketball hoop.
The level of student engagement increases as students create and compete!
With these materials students will be motivated to bring their best self to math class each day.
