This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I would like to provide my students with math manipulatives as a way to help develop financial literacy skills. These skills will alllow them to experience money and problem solve.
Math Manipulatives can help students move from concrete experiences to abstract reasoning, which helps hone their mathematical thinking skills. Many of my students struggle with counting within 10, 20, and beyond. By providing these tools, my students can build the necessary skills to count and build financial literacy as far as learning the value of money and numbers. Financial literacy is very important to my group of student because they come from low-income households. The earlier they learn the value of money and how to manage it, the better.
I would like to provide my students learning opportunities through a multi-modal approach. It is proven that students learn best by doing and playing.
