Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of my students are new to the country and this is their first experience in an academic setting. My students need extra support in reading instruction because they do not have the foundational literacy skills in their primary language. For many of my students, English is their third language and this is their first time in school. At times, school can seem overwhelming to them. In order to support them, we use small groups to give them more time to practice their new reading skills.
These magnetic letters, rainbow coloring pencils and smelly markers will make our groups more engaging.
They love learning to read and they love seeing their progress throughout the week. My students will be using these materials while in a small group with me or with our TA. When engagement goes up, we know that their reading progress will also go up.
I can't wait to see my students improve in their reading fluency and I can't wait to see their faces as they use these new materials.
