Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Math centers are a powerful opportunity for differentiated learning for our students. In fifth grade, I have students who need support in many different areas, and these areas of need change throughout the school year as students master skills. Because my students' learning needs are constantly evolving as they grow, I too need to adapt my teaching and learning activities to meet their needs. As a result, center activities have become an important factor in my teaching and planning process. In my district, we have designated time each day for students to work on "What I Need" (WIN) activities specifically targeting areas for additional support and practice. During this time, students are able to work on skills they need help with either with me during their small group rotations or with their peers at other work stations.
The center activities requested through this classroom project have been selected specifically to meet the varied learning needs of my fifth grade students.
Whether students need additional practice with grade level content or review of skills from prior grade levels, the learning activities I have selected here will provide my students with fun and motivating contexts to practice whatever skills they may need to work on. I am excited to see the academic gains I know the products requested here will help my students make and the impact those gains will have on my students and their confidence in their math skills.
My hope is that this project will not only help my students to practice math skills, but also get my students excited for math through engaging work stations during our WIN time.
