Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A safe and engaging learning environment is essential for our students to access their therapies and grow as learners as we embark on another exciting new school year. At our school, Special Education students who receive speech therapy and occupational therapy currently work in a small, shared space that is insufficiently furnished, quite bare, and not conducive to creativity and learning. We have a wobbly, cracked therapy table in the room, some chairs, and not very much else! The occupational therapist and two speech therapists (one of whom is me!) who share the space are passionate about our diverse set of students, and we want to do better for them.

Our Special Education students are curious, resilient, and hardworking, and we would like to create a safe and engaging space for them to further reach their potential.

I hope that with the materials sourced for this project, my fellow therapists and I can offer a comfortable, safe, appropriate space for our students to learn and make progress on their goals. With a usable therapy table on which to do our sessions, a bulletin board to proudly display student work, and a homey rug, we believe we can get started on the right foot towards another great school year!
