Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school in Houston, Texas. Our area is primarily Hispanic. Many of my students come from Spanish speaking backgrounds and are working hard to learn how to read and write in English. Many of my students parents have difficulty helping their children due to the language barrier.

My students are eager to learn new things.

At times it can be hard to keep them engaged because they are young and lose interest in things quickly. They are mainly 5 and 6 years old, so they are at the age where they are learning to read and write. This is so important for them to have a solid foundation for the rest of their academic lives. I am always looking for new ideas to keep their learning fun and exciting!

My Project

The various materials listed in my project will help me engage my students in different ways. In studying early childhood education, I have learned that providing students with a variety of methods to discover their own learning is the best way for them to retain information.

With these materials, my students will be engaged in learning and will get to develop their own knowledge.

With the age group I teach, playing is so important and allowing my students to learn while "playing" will help keep them engaged and excited about learning. This will help keep students wanting to come to school and create a positive school culture.
