"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." -William Arthur Ward.
I want to inspire my students to learn and be everything that they can be in this world.
My students attend a Title I public school in a beautiful town in North Carolina. All economic levels are represented. For many students, English is their second language. Our state has adopted the Common Core Curriculum which has integrated Science and Technology into all parts of the daily curriculum. Our community is close, with parents willing to do whatever it takes to give their children a good education. I would like for my students to have reading activities that involves the entire family.
My Project
My students come from diverse backgrounds. Many of my students have parents who are new to the United States. I want all of my students and their families to work together to make academics possible at home and school.
My students need sturdy Take Home Bags to carry books home and a CD player that both parent and child can use to read together.
My students need to read at home and at school. Many of their parents are busy working and some are not familiar enough with the English language to help my students read at night. I would like to have my students take book bags home to read with their parents. My parents that are not fluent in English would be able to listen to a book being read in English with their child. Parents that are fluent in English can have a bag with a book, ready for them to take out and read with their child when there is time. Having all of the materials needed in a Take Home Bag, including carry home bags, journals, books, CD players (adapters instead of batteries) and headphones, makes it easier for busy parents to read with their child. I believe this will help my students get the reading practice they need at home so they can become better readers. This will also help my parents find the time and feel more comfortable reading with their child. The bridge from home to school would be created and students and parents will both gain from this experience.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
