Almost all of my twenty-eight kids come from a small town, rural community, where hardships are not uncommon. These kids have a positive mindset despite some of their conditions at home. I am constantly amazed at my students' resilience, their creativity, and their kindness towards each other. Our classroom is a safe and loving place because of their attitudes towards school.
Although many of them come from poor and broken homes, the students I teach are whole.
They are creative, intelligent, inquisitive. The sky is the limit for these kids. My desire is to help them see that and to give them my best for the time that I have them.
My Project
These supplies will undoubtedly impact my classroom in significant ways. Our school doesn't have an art class and because of that, the only exposure my students get to art (painting, drawing, etc.) is in my classroom. I love to give my students the chance to express their creativity, the chance to discover what they can do with paint and a paintbrush. I've seen kids beam with pride when their masterpiece is complete and they get to share it with others. For some of my students, my classroom will be the first time they get to use some of these supplies.
One of the main ways I would like to implement art in the classroom is to do a study of famous artists.
We will study artists like Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh, among others. My students will learn about these artists' lives, the particular style of each artist, and the perspective of the people in that time period. My students will have the chance to reproduce one of each of these artists pieces. One of my favorites being Monet's Water Lillies.
The thought of bringing art supplies (such as paint and paint brushes) into my classroom excites me because I know the impact it will have on my twenty-eight kids. They will study history though art, gain self-confidence and engage their curiosity. Thank you for helping me make this dream a reality!
