My Students

My students are a group of first graders learning and growing in southeast Baltimore City. These students have never experienced a "normal" school year without the direct impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, they are resilient, show perseverance, and have made great progress with academic and social-emotional skills so far this year.

Our classroom community is a place where these six-year-olds can find caring adults and opportunities for growth.

In first grade, students are learning critical skills like how to read and write, how to understand and answer math words problems, how to make new friends, and how to resolve interpersonal conflicts. We practice advocacy and independence every day so that they are ready to take on new challenges!

My Project

First graders benefit from play-based learning and engaging small group center time.

I am requesting resources and activities which will allow students to work independently while teachers work on providing data-based intervention to small groups of students.

When students are engaged in their center time, they are able to develop independent work skills, boost their practice and progress in ELA and math, and allow those working with the teacher to receive the most effective instruction at their level. The materials here are flexible enough that students will be engaged in new activities every week!

The magnatiles and gears are some of my first graders' absolute favorites and help them to exercise their creative thinking during cold indoor recess days!
