Help me give my students books that they can read. Many of our students are reading at a variety of reading levels and we want to be able to let them choose non-fiction books that are engaging.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and languages. I find that my students need books that they are interested in and can read fluently. My student population is 85% poverty and 70% of our population is English Language Learners. Our students have emotional and social issues due to language, poverty and cultural barriers. Looking at and reading books is a way to develop language with my students and make connections with them. We are trying to close the opportunity gap for students as well as the reading level gap.
Our students will enjoy reading and exploring non-fiction books that they are able to read.
This purchase would allow students to have books that they can read at this time. Our school is using the hybrid model. We want all our students to have access to books to take home at this time that they can read.
My Project
Our students in the upper grades are learning to read as they are just learning to speak English. We hope to have non-fiction books that will engage them as well as enable them to read fluently. These leveled books will be used with our upper grade readers who are just learning to read. The best part about these books is that they have topics that upper grade students are interested in reading. We hope to build students confidence through these books as they grow as a reader.
Many of the emergent readers that are available are for early elementary students, these books are directed towards upper elementary students.
The best part is that we can use these readers with all our readers in grades pre-k through grade 5.
