My Students
I have the privilege of teaching a fantastic group of +20 first graders at a Title I elementary school that acts as a Community Hub, offering wrap around services to support the whole child and their families. We have over 20 different languages/dialects spoken at our school, with families coming from all corners of the world. The vast majority of students (close to 90%) qualify for free and reduce lunches, therefore we are able to provide every student with a daily breakfast, lunch, and snack. I can't picture myself working at another school, the students are wonderful and the families and community members are extremely supportive. However, I have created this account because on average I spend close to $300-$600 out of pocket every year supplying students with the tools they need to thrive.
My Project
Each of these items will help support students furthest away from educational justice engage in various math, reading, and art lessons while safely distancing.
A huge challenge this school year will be engaging primary students while following safety protocols, and this project will help students participate in small group instruction and independent work - which are vital to the success of the students' academic success.
The magnet tiles will help my students explore geometry in a developmentally appropriate way, while the "CVC Touch and Read" cards and the write and wipe alphabet cards will help students independently practice their foundational literacy skills while I'm working with other small reading groups. Due to COVID safety regulations, these reading groups will be taking place on the floor, where these "soft seats" will help my students get comfortable enough to focus on their learning.
Finally, our classroom is made up of students all over the world (from five different continents) with many different shades of skin colors. When students write stories about themselves, the "People Colors" crayons will help students see themselves in their illustrations.
