Help me give my students headphones to use with our intervention program on their Chromebooks and lap desks to allow them more freedom in their work space choices.
I work with small groups of students, usually about 5 at a time, in grades K-8 throughout the day. These terrific students need a little extra help in their Math skills. The students are so hardworking and continue to try their best even when things are a little tough for them.
I teach at a Title One school in Wisconsin where a large percentage of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch.
I'd like to provide some extra materials for the students that would help make our classroom more engaging to them in order to motivate them to keep working at their Math skills.
My Project
One of the components of my Math Intervention Classroom is an online program. In order to be successful in the program, students need to be able to hear the directions and explanations that are frequently given while working with the program. The headphones I currently have available for the students are well-used and are falling apart or work inconsistently as a result. The Math work alone can already be challenging for the students, and I don't want the lack of fully functioning headphones to be another stumbling block for them. The lap desks will be used to give the students more choices when deciding on their work space. They often ask for the ability to sit somewhere else in the room as a reward. The availability of the lap desks will not only give them more freedom when choosing their spot, but will also add an element of fun because of the cool colors and patters.
I try to find ways to make the learning in my classroom more engaging because students come to my room to work on something that is more difficult for them, I really believe the addition of working headphones and fun lap desks will help to make that happen.
