Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Special Education students need motivation to reach their highest potential. The classroom environment must be designed to support and reward their efforts. Many common items have been proven to motivate students, but these items can be expensive.
My students are currently learning in an old building that does not have many comforts or student friendly attributes.
It is a Title One school that was once a high school. Now, twelve hundred, seventh and eighth graders are broken into eight learning teams, with one team at each grade level designated as the Special Ed team.
It is hard for students to focus and do their best six hours a day when they are expected sit all day in uncomfortable desks and look at the same black and white papers in every room. I'd like to change this make the classroom more welcoming and supportive.
My Project
Students will be more engaged and better able to discern expectations through color copies. This will also support a variety of visual and language learning disabilities. Because they can see specific parts of words highlighted, maps in color and math problems with variations to direct their attention, they will be better able to succeed.
My students will benefit from the visually enhanced copies with a new color printer as they will support focus and attention.
The lapdesks will enhance the flexible seating that I have already purchased and implemented in the class. Now students can read in a comfortable chair, choose to work at a desk or table or even decide to write while standing up!
