Ms. Angeletopoulos from Los Angeles CA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Engage Every Student in Nonfiction Reading

My students need a Scholastic News Magazine subscription to increase types of nonfiction and current event articles they can independently read - these are made just for fifth grade.

My Students

My fifth grade students come from diverse cultural backgrounds and are intellectually curious and eager to learn. The students enjoy learning from project based learning, hands-on experiences and technology geared research and learning opportunities. Our school is a Title One school and the majority of families are socio-economically disadvantaged.

My students are bright, articulate and eager to learn.

My students have many interests and questions that can be answered through student facilitated research and gain much insight from each other through collaboration.

Many of the students do not have academic support outside of school and benefit from motivating lessons and experiences inside of the classroom. It is crucial to make my students' classroom learning experience as relevant and responsive as possible.

My Project

Scholastic News is the nonfiction and current events magazine made just for fifth grade classrooms. These magazines are full of captivating current events and incorporate skill-building instructional materials.

Each exciting issue comes with powerful teaching tools that will support my ELA, science, and social studies curricula.

My students will gain exposure to a variety of topics that are lacking in basic curriculum materials.

My students will receive their own copy of the magazine weekly, increasing ownership and ability to write in their own books for annotating key details. Students will be able to form opinions based on facts and discuss together.
