Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a NASA Explorer school focusing on math and science, which helps students achieve academic success. It is a Title I school with most of our students receiving free or reduced meals. Our students are culturally diverse.
My students are curious, creative and spontaneous.
They enjoy working collaboratively and are always ready for a challenge.
Since the school closure in March, my students and I embarked on the distance learning journey together! We tried all sorts of different online platforms, like Schoology and Zoom, and learned many new things along the way. My students and I met four times every week virtually. I am encouraged by my students and their families' willingness to try new things.
My Project
In order to prepare for my students to have a successful virtual learning experience in the upcoming school year, I am requesting an iPad, an iPad case with a keyboard, and a stylus pen. Ever since school closed a few months ago, my students and I worked tirelessly together to continue the learning online through virtual conferences and Google Classroom. Whenever I taught during our Zoom sessions, more than ever, I realized the limitation of using one computer screen and how difficult it was to explain certain concepts to my visual learners. Using the iPad, a keyboard, and a stylus pen, my lessons can become more interactive and efficient.
During our math lessons, pairing up with the computer, I will be able to show the process of solving difficult math problems through drawings and explanations in real time.
It will also help make discussing different strategies with my students easier. In addition, I can record lessons that they can view as many times as necessary. Most importantly, it can be served as a second screen for me to respond effectively to my students during our regular virtual class meetings. I can become more visually accessible to meet my students’ individual needs.
