My Students

I have 28 awesome students who vary tremendously in their abilities and interests. I try to present the fifth grade core content in a way that gets them excited to learn while allowing them to be confident and successful. My students love learning when they are able to have hands-on experiences to discover the reasons behind phenomena they see in the world around them.

My students are enthusiastic to learn despite the many challenges they face.

The school I teach at is located in a low income area. With little funding, it is extremely difficult to provide the exciting and challenging opportunities that my students need to improve.

My Project

Getting some flexible seating options and bouncy bands will help create an environment that helps all of my students feel comfortable as they learn. The students can use the cushions or bouncy bands to help improve their concentration as they sit at their desks.

Students always love snacks and I will use the snacks to enhance their learning.

As we learn about adjectives, I will pop popcorn for them to describe. Later this year, we will write a persuasive paper about whether or not students should have snacks. I would like to make this essay more engaging by providing some snacks to my students. Not all of my students would be able to bring in snacks from home.

Technology is also very engaging for students. The charging station would help organize the kindles that we already have. My students would also love the addition of some Ollies to our classroom. I want to expose my students to coding while they are still in elementary school. In fifth grade, we learn about states and capitals. One way to get them interested is by sending postcards to each of the 49 other states and receiving postcards back, which we will be able to do with the help of the postcards and stamps. My student look forward to getting postcards throughout the year.
