My Students
I teach second grade at an inner city school. My school receives 100% free breakfast and lunch. My students are excited to come to school and learn every day. They thrive on the support and love they get at school and it really makes a difference in their lives.
Our students come to school at least one year below grade level.
We have to work really hard to get them caught up. It really takes a village to raise a child.
My Project
We are getting close to the end of the year. This is the time of year when testing is finished and all the necessary lessons are taught. It's time to let our hair down and have a little fun.
My students LOVE using Post-it Notes!
I think it makes them feel grown up. For each lesson, I create posters on chart paper with questions for them to answer. They write their opinion, fact or answer with pencils and add it to the chart. It makes a great reference for them. They are also a great way for me to see what they have learned so far. I also allow them to make a poster on the requested chart paper with special crayons to demonstrate what they have learned. They love to share these with the class. The end of the year study will be a science focus because it's their favorite content area. They recently found ants on the playground and were fascinated by them so I think that will be our first thing to learn about.
