Encouraging Young Minds Through STEM Based Independence, Teamwork and Creativity!
My students need STEM based centers where they can use curiosity and indepenence by exploring, creating, and problem solving in a fun, hands on way of learning through play.
Our students will be entering Kindergarten in a brand new charter school that will be focused on STEM based learning by touching upon science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The students in this Kindergarten classroom come from a variety of communities. It is important that we are able to stock our classroom to provide the optimal learning experience for these Kindergarteners by providing the basic foundation for a child's academic career. Providing our children tools to use for STEM based learning will only benefit their future success in critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving.
Our school receives one-third of the funding of traditional public schools in our area from the state.
This creates an economic hardship for our school. As a result, we have a challenging time acquiring materials to support advancing our curriculum for our school.
My students and I truly appreciate the donations from across the global community. It takes a village and our learners are experiencing the concept of helping others and becoming great citizens.
My Project
STEM based learning provides the opportunity for students to understand about real world application which will prepare them for entering the technical work force as they grow and expand their knowledge. STEM based learning also helps with critical thinking, reasoning, investigation and problem solving by using real world issues and problems.
I would like to introduce my class to STEM based centers that will promote learning by using critical thinking, investigation and imagination using a hands on approach while working as a team with their peers.
Its crucial to learn these skills at a young age so they can be implemented throughout their school experience. I believe that these skills will promote independence, confidence and realizing there are multiple right answers to many different situations in life.
My students would benefit from by using Waterway Pipe Building set, The Gear Root Mini Building Blocks, along with the 3-D Design and Drill Activity Center which will promote imagination, creativity and problem solving through play. This year we will also be learning about the push and pull force using magnets. With that being said a Magnet Kit and the Block Play Stem Kit would help tremendously and provide enough materials for a group lesson. Each child can discover magnets by using natural problem solving skills along with covering mathematics through counting, adding and tacking away as needed. To cover the engineering piece what better way to explore the hands on approach. The Blocks and Blueprints Learning Center and the Building Blocks STEM Challenge will let these children explore physical science through construction and critical thinking. Last on my list and probably one of the coolest would be The Ramp and Ball Exploration Set. This center will help with critical thinking and creativity by building, testing and experimenting while using early STEM skills.
