My students come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are amazing and hardworking students who impress me on a daily basis. They come to school ready to complete what is asked of them with respect and perseverance. This is not always easy for them. You see, my students happen to have a disability. This disability impacts the way they learn in comparison to their peers. My job is to provide them with the instruction and support needed for them to be successful within the learning community.
My students need a tablet within our classroom community to encourage students the love of reading a variety of books when their reading skills may inhibit this. The tablet will allow my students to access state adopted textbooks and many other books through a read aloud program designed for students with reading disabilities. This will allow my students to have a sense of independence and hopefully encourage a boost in self-confidence. They will be able to read books which are on their interest level and the ones their peers are reading. Hopefully, this will spark conversations with peers, increase vocabulary, and their reading fluency.
