Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach third grade in a rural area. To help combat COVID concerns, our district has lowered class sizes to help with the transition to classes in person. Although our school year has been filled with worry and wonder, it has been comforting to develop a relationship with the kids in person and help them through their anxieties. I am looking to add diverse books to our classroom library.

My Project

Story time is our favorite time of the day. We come together on the carpet and gather for a time of learning and sharing. As we read, we stop to discuss and share our own stories that add to the enriching experience.

Story time gives us the opportunity to learn about the world and each other.

Adding diverse books to our classroom library will allow us to learn about other cultures and nurture empathy for one another.

I enjoy sharing my Mexican culture with my students. They learn that different doesn't mean bad and that our character is more important than our looks. I hope this project will teach my students to have compassion for the people around them.
