This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The children would love to paint on the clear easel, not using paper. The smocks are needed to protect their clothing during art sessions. My students are developing skills to have the proper grip when writing, the easy grip crayons will assist them with this.
I am a Pre-k paraprofessional (teacher assistant) for 4 year old children.
We are a Title I school in a very high poverty area. My students are new to a "learning environment" and have never received any type of structured learning. Some of my students are having difficulties expressing their emotions, they act out in many ways such as anger and often violence to other classmates. Art gives the children a way of expressing themselves with a positive outcome.
My Project
My students have art each and every day. They will have guided art and craft time as well as free time for art. To see the face of a child when they hold a paintbrush for the first time, or use a bottle of glue and a pair of scissors on their own... is priceless! The children are excited each day to "create a masterpiece" to take home to their family. I want to encourage the children to think outside of traditional art.
My students will develop self confidence as individuals.
They will see their imagination come to life right before their own eyes!
I display the artwork of the students within the classroom and hallways for everyone to see.
