My Project

My students are entering the 2024 Rube Goldberg Machine Competition! I have two classes that will each be building their own machine, with a group of 20 students per class. The themes are "Amusement Park" and "Candy Land." Helping us fund this project will help foster hands-on learning experiences for my students. The materials requested are specifically tailored to bring both of those themes to life!

Materials such as candy, marshmallows, gingerbread, licorice, gummy worms, candy canes, lollipops, and chocolate will help the Candy Land theme come to life!

For example, the students will use the chocolate bars in place of dominos. They also plan on making a Chocolate Mountain, Candy Cane Forest, Land of Gingerbread, etc.

The materials needed for the amusement park, such as the train, Ferris wheel, fair banner, wooden spoons, boats, ducks, and space ships, will help their Amusement Park Rube Goldberg Machine look and act real!

We are also in need of general art supplies such as the hot glue sticks, paint, foam balls, and cotton balls. These materials will help pull their creations together.

Donating to our project supports educational opportunities, promotes creativity, and provides a unique and engaging STEM experience to students who are not used to having this type of project. This will help to empower my students and allow them to compete amongst their peers on a more equal playing field. This is my 3rd year teaching for Columbus City Schools. I teach mostly 10th-grade physical science students. They have never entered a science competition and this is an exciting new opportunity for them!
