“Art is literacy of the heart.” My students love showing off their creativity. I want to capture this enthusiasm to improve their writing skills.
My ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) students come from a variety of different backgrounds.
Many of them are born in the United States. They are learning English as a second (or third) language. The majority of them are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. They are all eager to learn.
My Project
I will use the paper, paintbrushes and water color paints to allow my students to show their creativity visually. They will paint or draw a picture and use this as a springboard to assist them with writing. I will use the writing prompt cards to help them with generating ideas in their writing. Teachers Pay teachers has a wealth of inspiring materials for students. I will use the gift card to obtain writing materials relevant to the topics we are studying at the time. These writing and art materials will help empower my students through the arts.
