Help me give my students engaging extension activities to promote completing classwork on time. From building marble roller coasters to creating interactive notebooks these will engage students in my science classroom.
We all work at different speeds. Some students are speedy and need extension activities and others need small group support and more time to complete the assignments. In my science classroom I have come up with an idea to support both types of learners. I am going to implement a Ketchup and Pickles day on a weekly basis in my classroom. Students who need to "ketchup" on work will be provided with the benefit of a smaller class setting and more time with teacher support while those that are early finishers can [pick]le independent extension activities from a choice board that pertain to what we are learning.
I have used Ketchup and Pickle days in the past with great success for both styles of learning.
Both learning styles look forward to these days. I have had students tell me how much they love these days to get caught up. I have noticed implementing these days fosters ownership of my students learning.
Here are some of the ways I plan on using the supplies on my order:
-Headphones for digital escape rooms that won't interfere with students who are getting extra support.
-Cardboard boxes, construction paper, and glue to create 3D biomes. Students will record them presenting their biome with greenscreen technology to "drop" them into their created biome.
-Marbles will be used to explore the physics behind roller coasters and how that pertains to our Forces and Motion unit.
-Notebooks, pencils, and pencil sharpener will be used for our interactive notebooks which is a big part of our class and uses the research based practice of physically writing to help promote retaining information.
-Chart paper will be used to annotate the essential question as a class and to create anchor charts to help break down more complicated topics.
