Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The demographic of our school is culturally diverse, but impoverished, serving a 60 percent free-and-reduced lunch rate population. Many of my fifth graders are still learning to read, while also stepping into the world of reading to learn. They deserve access to a quality education that will allow them to do both. We work every day to build our proficiency in both reading and math to ensure we grow into productive, caring and principled world-learners. My fifth graders are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and inquirers. Trying to learn as much as possible from the world around them. Many of my students are learning a second language, while also maintaining their academics. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding ambassadors, world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, teachers... They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their long successful careers!
My Project
Get Your Teach On specializes in highly engaging and innovative classroom experiences and instruction for students. This conference will allow me to grow professionally in many ways. First, this conference offers a wide variety of break out sessions for all of the subject areas that I teach, with a focus on high student engagement and hands-on, immersive learning experiences. This conference will present researched-based strategies that can be incorporated into 2nd to 6th grade classrooms to reach all learners through four interactive, full-day trainings. Over the course of the four day conference, I will have the opportunity to learn from and interact with educators from all over the country who specialize in interactive learning experiences that empower students to take charge of their learning. I will be able to walk away from the conference with new strategies to share with my school and colleagues. Most importantly, I will be able to provide my students with truly engaging, memorable learning experiences.
This conference will allow me to connect with teachers across the country to learn best practices, strategies, and techniques to create an ideal learning environment for my students.
Sessions include lessons on reading, writing, science & STEM, social studies, and math. Also, the conference focuses strongly on math and the use of math manipulatives, which will help me grow as a math teacher and learn new ways to present difficult concepts. As a teacher, I am a lifelong learner who is eager for any opportunity to meet other educators and to learn from them!
