My students need flexible seating options. I purchased some last year, but they were not very durable. Now, I need to replace a few to continue this in my classroom. The students love flexible seating!!!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are 2nd graders in a Dual Language program, in a Title 1 school, that prepares students for a globalized society by giving them the gift of a second language. Our program goal is to develop as bilingual, biliterate, and multicultural learners. Our classroom is made up of Native Spanish speakers, Native English speakers, and bilingual students.
My students are problem solvers, readers, writers, and enthusiastic learners.
They are engaged and inquisitive. They love to ask questions and love the independence and ownership they have of their classroom.
My Project
Students today are learning to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. To empower them, we need to provide an environment that allows for choice and different learning opportunities.
The first time I heard about flexible seating, I thought to myself, why have we waited so long to do this.
We are preparing our students for the future, so teaching them in traditional ways will no longer work. With flexible seating, students are given the opportunity to choose the option in which they learn best. They are given choice, with clear expectations.
No longer is our classroom boring and sterile. Now it feels like home. Students are allowed to find a comfy nook to work in, like they would at home. Not only do the students love the cozy feeling of our classroom, but as a teacher, I feel more relaxed and truly enjoy coming into my room.
My project will be funding other seating options to be used by my students. The wobble seats and balance ball seats are a great choice for students to be able to have a bit of movement as they are working. This is really great, especially for our little guys who have a problem focusing. The listening center couch will be an inviting place for our students to use during our Daily 5 rotations. This will give them a place to listen to books read fluently, as they work on improving their own reading fluency.
