Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from diverse ethnic backgrounds and speak a variety of languages such as Spanish, Khmer, and Vietnamese at home. They live in a poverty-stricken neighborhood with a high crime rate. Some of my students are homeless. Despite their many challenges, they are students who are motivated to learn. School is a safe place for them. They enjoy learning the most when they are able to have hands-on opportunities to learn. Many of our students dream of being the first in their family to go to college.

My Project

My students will be introduced to a new way to communicate, using LEGO Bricks. They will learn the team building and communication methods of LEGO Serious Play, using LEGO Bricks to create metaphors and encourage discussion. We will use techniques of creative problem solving for exploring ideas, finding problems and ways to solve them.

This learning will be interwoven with conversations about what positive change they can make around them, and finding ways to make that change happen.

This program will provide my students with a new way to communicate and will give all students a voice, shared experiences and thoughts.

We expect that at the end of the series, we will have come up with a number of possible projects that we can do with the students and will host a family meeting with the projects the students would like to do.
