My Project

I have the pleasure of teaching eighth grade as part of an Applied Engineering and Technology robotics class. They are curious, creative, and eager to dive into hands-on learning experiences. However, our current resources are limited, with only 17 robots shared among 120 students within each term. This has led to challenges in engagement, collaboration, and the ability to fully explore their ideas.

Because of the limited amount of robots, students work in large groups, exceeding 3 or 4 members.

This limits their ability to fully immerse themselves in the robotics projects, leading to disengagement and frustration. Students frequently dismantle their builds on a daily basis, and troubleshooting becomes more challenging when a single robot is shared across multiple classes. Maintenance and servicing also pose logistical issues, causing downtime in our robotics activities.

Obtaining more Lego Education Spike Prime robots is critical to overcoming these challenges. With additional robots, I can create smaller groups, allowing each group to have their own robot to work with throughout the course. For example, they can build a robot to simulate a Mars rover and expand of their ideas with something that is their own. This not only promotes a sense of ownership, but also enables students to explore and experiment with different attachments and designs tailored to their projects.

My goal for this project is to foster a more engaging and enriching robotics experience for my students. With smaller groups and a dedicated robot, students will have more hands-on time, where they can troubleshoot independently, collaborate effectively, and take ownership of their projects from conception to completion.

Your support will enhance students' technical skills and also instill confidence, teamwork, and a passion for STEM education. Together, we can empower young minds to become future innovators and leaders in the field of engineering.
